Audrey Cooper, MSHRM ’13

Audrey Cooper“As a Thomas Edison State University graduate I believe that adult students value education more because we have a better understanding and appreciation of the cost and financial commitment. Scholarship support of non-traditional students seeking to advance their education is essential. As one of those students, the George A. Pruitt Scholarship Fund provided support which allowed me to focus on my studies and reduced some of the financial burden on my family.”

Brought up to appreciate a strong work-ethic, Audrey Cooper, recalls her parents saying “there are just some things in life that you have to do.” It was a hard lesson as a teenager but as she entered adulthood, she understood what her parents meant. To advance her career, she needed to advance her degree and Thomas Edison State University allowed her the flexibility and additional financial support to do exactly that.

Audrey was determined to complete her graduate degree, but finding time to do so was difficult. Between balancing her job as a Career Advisor at Burlington County College and keeping up with an on-the-go toddler, she looked to her husband and family to help her accomplish her academic goals. As a recipient of the Pruitt Endowed Scholarship, Audrey was able to rely on an additional support network – our donors.

With the help of her family and the support of the scholarship, Audrey will complete her Master of Science in Human Resource Management in June 2013 with a 4.0 GPA.

As a career professional, she recognizes the importance of having a high quality education and an advanced degree in a difficult job market. When advising students, Audrey stresses the importance of building one’s professional network, diversifying skills and keeping an up-to-date resume. Audrey advises young students about the importance of education in their job search. Speaking from experience, she knows that completing an advanced education is critical as you pursue your career.

With her master’s degree en route to be completed this June, Audrey will continue to devote her energy and attention to helping others succeed. In the future, she also plans to start a career consulting agency to guide others as they pursue their own dreams.
