Mike DiazAs a husband, father of five, full-time manager with Hackensack Meridian Health’s Mobile Satellite Emergency Department (MSED), and a full-time student, Mikael Diaz has his hands full.

A 2015-2016 recipient of the Dr. George A. Pruitt Endowed Presidential Scholarship, he is grateful for the financial assistance the scholarship has provided him, easing some of the fiscal burden for him and his family.

“Raising a family and going to school full time is a chief endeavor,” Diaz said. “With the majority of my schooling being funded through student loans, I am thankful to be able to have additional financial support to aid me in completing my degree in the form of this scholarship. Having gone to school for so long and having previously earned my bachelor’s, the cost was adding up for me and my family. I decided it was time to apply for scholarships and it was a true honor to be granted this opportunity to continue my education.”

Support Thomas Edison State University Upon completion of paramedic school early on in his career, Diaz had some college credits but no degree. After finding Thomas Edison through an online search, he dove directly into earning his bachelor’s degree. In 2015, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in homeland security and emergency preparedness, and is currently working toward his Master of Science in Management degree in public health/public policy.

“Earning my bachelor’s degree really helped me, in my line of work, with being promoted to the level of supervisor and coordinator within some of the major healthcare systems for which I’ve worked,” Diaz said. “I am looking forward to seeing what opportunities earning my master’s degree will bring.”
